I guess she messed up the speech, or someone threw off the speech taping... you'll notice it in the beginning. I think it's a little glimpse into Ingrid's personality...she probably had it down, knew what to do, and was ready...then someone threw off her groove. NO ONE THROWS OFF INGRID'S GROOVE!! lol.

Cary Grant is all the way on the right holding the Academy Award he accepted for Ingrid. Ingrid said in her auto/biographies that she was in the tub when she won (in Europe) and her son Robertino ran in and told her that he heard her name on the radio. The child did not speak English so didn't quite know what was happening, but Ingrid told the story for laughs, because she accepted one of her Oscars from afar, naked. Lol.

Murder!

Agatha Christie's Murder On the Orient Express was a film full of stars. Ingrid Bergman co-starred with greats: Sean Connery, Vanessa Redgrave, Lauren Bacall, Albert Finny, Jacqueline Bisset, and Anthony Perkins (among others).



For Ingrid's role as, Greta Ohlsson, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Here is a clip of Ingrid's acceptance speech, giving homage to her friend Valenina Cortese.

She is outstanding, really digging deep, speaking Swedish and not wearing any makeup to look young and beautiful (yet she still does look that way!!).

The first book has a huge layout about Notorious among other films that I would love to look at and read about all day.

Taschen also has a HUGE book about Ingmar Bergman, which I would love to own someday.

FUNNIEST INGRID VIDEO YET

Seriously, this is my phone ringtone and also I <3 ABBA. Mixed in with Ingrid Bergman. HILARIOUS as well as AMAZING.

I give this an 11 on a scale to 10 of WEIRD.

I seriously can't stop laughing about this.

Intermezzo: A Love Story and Ingrid's First American Film

TCM is showing some of Lesley Howard's films and of course this means they are showing Intermezzo: A Love Story in which he co-stars opposite Ingrid Bergman. This version of the film was made in 1939 and used a lot of clips and words from the original.


This movie is one of her best. The film is a re-make of the 1936 hit in Sweden, in which she starred with Gustaf Molander



This movie is incredible. I love the messages of returning to love and independence. Ingrid's Character, Anita Hoffman, is an accomplished Piano teacher as well as a skilled pupil. She abandons her dreams of scholarship and concert piano playing to follow a man, Holgar Brandt, who is an accomplished concert violinist. They tour together, which allows them to both fulfill their dreams of playing in concert, but then they fall in love, abandon family and dreams and try to live a lie.

There are some specific things I'd like to entice you with...in honor of this movie.

REASONS TO SEE THIS MOVIE

• Anita decides to take her scholarship and she wears pants...all the clothes are SUPER chic.

• Lesley Howard and Gustaf Moleandar both used stand in hands to make the notes and fingering correct on the violin. It looks silly if you look too closely, but really innovative as far as problem solving on set.
• The dog in the movie is both cute, from 1939 and funny.
• The "ice flow" scenes and story lines are used in both: weather is a big theme in these films.
  
• I like this quote Anita: “I have been an intermezzo in his life”
  

• “ you gave me a good word once, courage, I’m trying to use it, trying.” --This quote shows how determined Anita is, and even at this time, when it would be uncommon for a female character to take it into her hands to determine her own fate (in film) Ingrid's character chooses her story and her next step. Independence and scholarship!

I'm going to slightly switch gears and talk about Ingrid Bergman's skillz (yes, with a "z") playing the Piano. In Intermezzo, Ingrid shows off her abilities to play accurately and passionately.
There are I think 3 scenes of her playing the Piano, and they are all marvelous.

Be sure to check out both versions of Intermezzo: A Love Story. The Swedish one is a little more satisfying (as far as story goes) the American one is fine tuned (as far as visuals). They are both amazing and capture my heart, mind and ears every time!

Ingrid Walk of Fame

I am writing from L.A.--
I have just had one of the best weekends of my life.
I would like to share with you that I went to Hollywood today and found Ingrid's star on the walk of fame.



I also stood in Cary Grant's footprints.

Ingrid's Girls

Isabella Rossellini premiered her Green Porno 2 series at the IFC Theatre in New York. Along with many others, her half-sister Pia Lindstrom was there to celebrate Isabella's work with the Sundance Channel.


I think it's remarkable the resemblance Ingrid Bergman's children have to her even to this day. They all embody different aspects of her looks and work.

I think they have continued a wonderful legacy. Though Isabella's work is usually a little crazy, at least compared to a lot of mainstream work as well as her sister Pia's reporting for New York City news channels and theatre reviews.

I thoroughly enjoy Isabella's work (obviously) and I'm sure Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini as well as Isabella's step parents and siblings would be and are proud of her accomplishments.
